“We all run the same course; some have various gifts, talents or unique capabilities while others are burdened by obstacles and challenges.” Steve Scala, one member of Team Catholic Charities 2017, made this observation back in January. Now it is April, training is in taper mode, and the Boston Marathon is on the horizon. Our runners have shown incredible dedication throughout the training season, not only physically but through their fundraising. With a team goal of $50,000, each teammate has done their part to support the at-risk youth served by Catholic Charities.
Catholic Charities’ at-risk youth programs help young adults in the communities we serve – including Brockton, Dorchester, and South Boston – find opportunity and a promising future. Programs like Youth Tutoring Youth in South Boston and the Teen Center at St. Peter’s in Dorchester provide students a safe, productive environment where they can grow academically and socially after school. For many students we serve, our programs can make an immeasurable and lasting impression on their lives, leading them down the path to success.
All of our runners have their own motivation for training for these important and historic 26.2 miles this year. You can read about their individual stories here – we are so inspired by their dedication. Their willingness to pair their goals with the goals of our organization is inspiring, and we are so appreciative of their dedication!
