English Transcultural Center
We provide the support and services new immigrants need to ease their transition to life in the United States. As the number of immigrants we serve each year doubles, we offer more English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), literacy classes, tutoring and computer lab time at our vibrant multicultural center. We also help students with job readiness, search and placement as well as resources to help settle into their new communities through referrals to health, education and employment resources. Classes are ongoing in Brockton and Marshfield year-round. Volunteers are needed to assist in classrooms, teach and tutor as well as assist in the computer lab.
Food Pantry Volunteers
The food pantry at Catholic Charities South is open five days a week and distributes over 5,000 lbs of food weekly to 40-60 families a day. Volunteers are needed to assist with intake (basic computer skills required), "shopping" with clients, stocking shelves and cleaning. In addition, we offer clients the opportunity to apply for food stamps and / or partake in the Angel Food Ministry Program. Volunteers are needed to assist with paperwork and on the 3rd Saturday of every month to assist with AFM Food Distribution.
Volunteers are needed Mondays through Fridays, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and Monday evenings from 5-7 p.m. Bilingual helpful.
Volunteer Leaders for Parish Outreach Programs
Parish volunteers with leadership skills are needed to help establish lay ministry outreach programs in areas south of Boston (i.e., cities and towns within the Archdiocese of Boston). Volunteers in these Outreach programs would reach out to frail, homebound and/or hospitalized elders providing spiritual support, sharing interests and conversation, occasional shopping, occasional transportation, providing information, reading and/or letter writing. Use your personal talents and life experience skills to help others! Catholic Charities will provide helpful ideas, training and ongoing support in establishing parish outreach programs.
Ambassadors of Compassion
Volunteers will assist with outreach by bringing the mission of Catholic Charities South to community groups, schools, youth organizations and corporations seeking more information on becoming involved with Catholic Charities. Ambassadors of Compassion will work with the Development Coordinator and Program Managers to present giving and volunteer opportunities to these various local groups. Examples of outreach include promotion of our annual Friends Feeding Families campaign or assisting groups run food drives, baby showers and diaper drives, or toy collections.
