Child Care | Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the development of the whole child. A child’s emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development is interrelated and activities are designed to stimulate growth in all areas. The Creative Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers, and Creative Curriculum for Preschool, which are firmly based in scientific theory and research about how children develop and learn, serve as the framework for planning and implementing our programs. The classroom environment is organized into a variety of interest areas and broad themes are developed to stimulate learning in each area. Play and discovery are the foundation of our curriculum. Teachers use observation and assessment to plan for each child’s individual needs, as well as the needs of the group.

Language Development
Our goal is for the children to develop effective communication skills and appreciate the beauty of languages. A love of literature is fostered through reading and storytelling. Singing, dramatic play and puppetry are just some of the activities that staff utilize to encourage language development.

Problem Solving
We assist children in observing, comparing and discussing their natural environment. Intellectual growth is stimulated through the use of puzzles, matching games, blocks and manipulative tasks that also encourage language development.

Creative Development
Our program fosters the child’s imagination through open-ended art activities, free play, music and dance. Children are encouraged to make choices and contribute individual ideas.

Physical Development
The development of large and small motor skills is encouraged through a variety of indoor activities: small motor skills are developed through the use of manipulative objects and art activities, and children participate in rhythm and dance, obstacle courses and activities that promote coordination. Opportunities for running, jumping, and climbing contribute to the development of large motor skills outdoors.

Socialization
Children learn to socialize through role playing, sharing, listening and even through resolving conflict. Children have the opportunity to explore relationships in pairs, small groups and as a whole class.

Cultural Awareness
Our programs strive to build an understanding of all cultures through the continuous sharing of music, art, traditional clothing, food and games. Classrooms provide books and toys that reflect many cultures and show a wide variety of role models. Parents and staff plan family social events to celebrate the diversity within each center.
