Statement on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston (CCAB) fully supports the continuation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and urges Congress to pass legislation that would allow children brought to the US through no fault of their own to remain permanently in the only home they know. DACA has allowed nearly 800,000 people who came to the U.S. as children to go to school and work, should they meet several critical guidelines and pay fees. DACA allows these young people to reach their potential and make great contributions to our workforce, economy, and society. The United States should remain a safe haven for those shielded by DACA should they choose to continue to live and work as productive citizens of this country. A discontinuation of DACA would not only threaten the financial stability, security, and general livelihood of those protected by DACA and their families, but is morally wrong and harms the values that we as Americans hold to be true.
