Volunteer at the Catholic Charities North Edication Center graduation. This volunteer opportunity allows them to interact with students who are graduating from Education Center Programs in Lynn and Salem. The overall feel of the event is one of celebration. By helping with below tasks, staff will be freed up to enjoy the event as well.
- Welcome students
- Check students off as they arrive
- Hand out caps and gowns
- Welcome guests and help them find seating
- Hand out programs
Volunteers may bring with them school supplies if they wish. This volunteer opportunity allows them to interact with students who are graduating from Education Center Programs in Lynn and Salem.
Catholic Charities North Education Center (55 Lynn Shore Drive, Lynn, MA, 01902) is for youth and young adults who have not finished high school and are looking for preparation for the GED test as well as help transitioning into a better job or furthering their education through college. With classes in Lynn and Salem both during the day and in the evening, the Education Center graduates about 40 students a year with a High School Equivalency Diploma. Classes go beyond to help students prepare for a healthy future. Teachers provide instruction regarding healthy living, basic financial education, parenting skills and many more relevant topics.
Unemployed and underemployed adults participate in the Education Center's Officeworks program which provides office skills training, internships and help transitioning to work though classes in Lynn.
Target Population:
- GED Classes: Out of school youth and young adults in greater Lynn and Salem.
- Officeworks: Individuals who are transitioning from "welfare to work" (those receiving benefits from the Department of Transitional Assistance who want to transition into regular employment)

Volunteer at the Merrimack Valley Catholic Charities Food Pantry. You will:
- Unload and prep food
- Sort and pack bags
- Stock Shelvers
Volunteer should plan to bring a bag of food and/or a grocery store gift card. Suggested food donations: pasta, canned vegetables, soups, pasta sauce, jelly, peanut butter, canned tuna or chicken, rice, beans, cereal, crackers. A pizza party will follow the the activity at the pantry. The food pantry coordinator as well as the YoPros Event Coordinator will be available for questions and discussion.
Merrimack Valley Catholic Charities Food Pantry at Lowell is a multi-service agency incorporated in 1945 and serving the greater Lowell area since 1923. The Pantry Programs have been in operation fro 17 years. The Lowll Food Pantry provides three to four days of nutritious food, once every thirty days to individuals and families who have no where else to turn. We also supply clients with a variety of information and referrals to other available services. The Food Pantry serves people of all ages, races, sexual orientations, and religions.
Target Population:
- Low to extremely low income clients in the Lowell/Greater Lowell area.
- Anyone who needs food
Catholic Charities Young Professionals are committed to cultivating and engaging young professionals in Greater Boston who are dedicated and invested in supporting the anti-poverty work of Catholic Charities. The focus of YoPros is twofold: Connecting young adults who share the desire to be active in our mission and Participation in group volunteer projects at our program sites in Eastern Massachusetts
