In The Pilot: What it Means to Give Back at Catholic Charities

At Catholic Charities of Boston (CCAB), we see, each and every day, the need in our communities that continues to grow as a result of the COVID-19 health and economic crisis. While this need is especially amplified during the holiday season, this season also marks a time when many in our communities make an effort to give back or volunteer.

This month, our Volunteer Services team shared with The Boston Pilot thoughts about volunteerism and ways to get involved with CCAB.

Catholic Charities of Boston Distributes Thanksgiving Meals for Those in Need

This past weekend, Catholic Charities of Boston, with the support of dedicated volunteers and Cardinal Seán O'Malley, distributed over 4,000 meals that will serve over 12,000 individuals this Thanksgiving. Following COVID-19 protocols, volunteers across the Agency distributed pre-packed bags of vegetables, Thanksgiving fixings, turkeys and grocery gift cards to those most in need in our communities.

Catholic Charities Greater Boston Thanksgiving Distribution Pre-Packing Event

Monday, November 23, 2020

On Friday, November 20, Catholic Charities of Boston was joined by dedicated volunteers, members from the Yawkey Foundation and Cardinal Seán O'Malley as we pre-packed thousands of bags of vegetables and other Thanksgiving fixings to distribute to community members in need.

Over the course of the weekend, we distributed 4,000 meals to feed 12,000 people this Thanksgiving.

Kelley Tuthill Joins CCAB as Chief Operating Officer

Catholic Charities CEO Kevin MacKenzie announced today that Kelley Tuthill will join the agency at the end of the year as Chief Operating Officer, a newly created position. The former WCVB-TV journalist most recently served as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Regis College.

A NA/HHA Program Update: Reopening Announcement

Good News!  The Catholic Charities Labouré Center’s Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aid Training Program will resume on November 17, 2020.  If you have already applied, you will receive an email with instructions and the documentation you will need.

We are excited to begin classes in a hybrid model and ask for your continued patience if we run into some bumps along the way.  Thank you for your understanding as we navigate our “new normal.”

Bridging Tech Donates Laptops to CCAB Shelters

Recently, Bridging Tech donated 37 laptops to the children living at Catholic Charities of Boston’s St. Ambrose Family Shelter in Dorchester and Nazareth Residence in Roxbury.

We are tremendously grateful for this generous donation that will enable the children living in CCAB shelters to be able to remotely access educational materials, as many schools implemented remote learning this year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Upcoming Webinar: Refugees and Migrants: Paradoxes in the Age of COVID-19

Coming up on November 17, 2020, Catholic Charities of Boston’s Director of Refugee and Immigrant Services, Marjean Perhot, is participating in a Boston College panel discussion on issues surrounding refugees and migration around the world, particularly in the age of COVID-19.

This webinar will take place live via Zoom and the panelists will discuss challenges faced by refugees and migrants and how we can support them and advocate for policies on these issues.
