Feel Good Story: How One Child is Helping to Create a CCAB "Birthday Pantry"

Thanks to a kind-hearted pre-schooler, you can help give our clients a happy birthday by supporting our new Birthday Pantry.

Catholic Charities of Boston is fortunate to have many compassionate donors, including some generous young people.

St. Cecilia's Parish in the Back Bay has been supporting CCAB's Yawkey Center food pantry for 10+ years, and recently, a four-year-old parishioner wanted to join in giving back.

After realizing that those less fortunate than him aren’t able to celebrate birthdays the way he does, he decided to donate a box of cake mix so that one of our families would be able to make a birthday cake. The family shipped the cake mix via Amazon to the Yawkey Center pantry with a note that said: “Owen (age 4) hopes this helps make someone’s birthday a happy one.”

This kind gesture sparked an interest within the St. Cecilia’s community to create a “Birthday Pantry” within the Yawkey Center food pantry so that families in need can receive some of the items needed for a birthday celebration for their children.

St. Cecilia’s Hunger and Homelessness Ministry volunteer Mark Lippolt, a long-time friend of CCAB, developed an Amazon Wishlist with birthday party supplies to help stock the Birthday Pantry. By everyone doing just a little, we can turn this four-year-old's generosity into an ongoing program to continue supporting our community members in need.

If you are interested in donating to our new Birthday Pantry, please consider shopping the Amazon Wishlist here:  https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2VUJISQ0QS3P9?ref_=wl_share

We love the creative and compassionate thinking of this group of dedicated volunteers!
