Boston College Student Athletes Pack 3,000 Meal Bags for Catholic Charities Thanksgiving Distribution
This week, over 250 student-athletes from Boston College gathered for their annual ‘Stuff the Truck’ event, in which they collectively stocked over 3,000 meal bags that will be distributed in Catholic Charities Boston’s annual Thanksgiving Meal Distribution later this month.
Working in shifts from morning to sundown, over 20 athletic teams, along with a group of administrative staff, competed to pack the highest number of bags and load them into the delivery truck. The fencing and volleyball team came in first place, with both teams working together to pack a total of 595 bags.
Kenny Francis, Assistant Athletic Director for Student Athlete Formation and Success at Boston College, said he is grateful for Catholic Charities Boston’s longstanding partnership with Boston College and is proud of the student athletes’ collective commitment to help those most in need in their community.
“For many years, Catholic Charities Boston has done the work of serving people on the margins, regardless of their race, color, creed or religion,” said Kenny. “We take a lot of pride in being a Catholic Jesuit university. Food security is a basic right and necessity and something people shouldn’t have to live without. Any time we have an opportunity to help local families in need, we are very grateful and energized to do so.”
