Community Partners Channel their Passion for Knitting into Helping those Most in Need

Catholic Charities Boston has recently received an outpouring of support from organizations and individuals interested in donating knitted items to clients in need, from longtime veterans who have knitted their entire lives to novice knitters who have recently come to love the craft and want to make a difference.

This fall, the agency received a large donation of everything from handmade hats to mittens to scarves from the organization, Knitting with a Purpose, a longtime partner to Catholic Charities.

Similarly, One Family Knitters at St. Edward the Confessor in Medfield recently donated cold weather accessories and nap blankets, which were donated to the Yawkey Center’s Basic Needs and Child Care Center. Individuals from the Notre Dame Club of Boston and students and staff from Lowell Catholic teamed up to donate baby blankets that were sent to the Yawkey Child Care Center, while St. Margaret Mary Parish in Westwood worked with the Prayer Shawl Ministry of St. Mark Parish all the way in Boynton Beach, Florida to get knitted items to Catholic Charities’ El Centro Center. Parishioners who attend St. Cecilia’s Parish remotely continue to give back to Catholic Charities Boston as well through contributing knitted items made with love from all over the country.

With winter fast approaching and temperatures cooling, these knitted items make a tangible difference for Catholic Charities Boston’s clients in need, not only helping them to stay warm but also reminding them that they are never alone and that they always have a support system at Catholic Charities.
