‘I’m so grateful:’ Nazareth Staff Help Single Mother Find Permanent Housing for her Family

Eva, a Boston native and resident of Catholic Charities Boston’s Nazareth Family Shelter, knows firsthand what it feels like to be living in a chronic state of uncertainty and doubt.  

After months of searching for permanent housing with her case manager at Nazareth, finding an affordable apartment in Boston for her family began to feel like an impossible feat. “I am looking forward to getting our own apartment for my kids. That’s what most motivates me and keeps me on my feet,” Eva said in November 2024. 

In March 2025, just two weeks after Eva gave birth to a baby boy, Eva’s persistence paid off when she found out that she was approved for a three-bedroom apartment in Boston, which will be furnished by HomeBase. 

“I’m so excited and grateful,” Eva said. “I am most looking forward to decorating the house, for my kids to have their own bedrooms, and to be able to cook for my family.” 

As Eva begins to prepare for the move, she said she is filled with gratitude for the unwavering support system her family found at Nazareth.  

“The staff constantly supported me during my pregnancy,” said Eva. “They were always asking if we needed anything and helped me prepare for my baby’s birth with all the essential: diapers, wipes, bibs, blankets, and a new bassinet for my son to sleep.” 

Securing housing just weeks after her son’s birth, Eva said, makes the transition even more exciting and joyful – a reminder that patience and resilience pay off and that, on the other side of hardship, there is always hope to be found.
