‘It is our responsibility to serve others:’ Catching Joy Co-Founder Donates Over 1,200 Pairs of Socks to Catholic Charities Clients in Need

For as long as Max Suprenant can remember, he has possessed a deep-seated desire to make a difference in the world by helping those most in need.

“I believe that it is our responsibility to serve others,” he said. “Volunteering has given me so much perspective and made me so grateful.”

As CEO and Co-Founder of Catching Joy Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit that promotes youth service and acts of kindness, Max has spearheaded a wide range of charitable projects in the Greater Boston community, including warm weather clothing drives for Catholic Charities Boston over the years.

During his four years at St. Sebastian’s High School, Max joined a church choir led by Meyer Chambers, husband of Catholic Charities Boston’s Vice President of Basic Needs, Beth Chambers. Through Meyer, Max learned of the incredible work Catholic Charities Boston was doing in his community. As a high school student, he began volunteering at the Yawkey Food Pantry, assisting with the agency’s Thanksgiving distribution efforts, and organizing warm weather clothing drives for clients in need.

“Mr. and Mrs. Chambers have both been role models and mentors to me,” Max said.

During the pandemic, Max launched Operation Sock Drop, in which Catching Joy supporters collected over 7,000 pairs of socks that were distributed to organizations serving families in need across Greater Boston, including Catholic Charities Boston.

Now a junior at Harvard University, Max remains committed to supporting Catholic Charities Boston. Just last week, Catching Joy donated 1,268 pairs of men’s, women’s, and children’s socks to the agency, which will be distributed to residents of Nazareth, St. Ambrose, Brigid’s Crossing and the Catholic Charities Inn, as well as clients of the Yawkey food pantry.

“I try to tie service into my life as a student and hopefully into a prospective career,” said Max. “I am so grateful to work with Catholic Charities Boston. It is an extremely rewarding partnership.”
