Thanks to Lovin’ Spoonfuls, Food is Not Going to Waste This Holiday Season
Every Friday, rain or shine, the staff at Catholic Charities St. Ambrose Family Shelter can be found outside their building in Dorchester, handing out extra food and essentials to people in need of a helping hand.
Boston-based food rescue organization Lovin’ Spoonfuls has long partnered with St. Ambrose to donate healthy, fresh food that would otherwise be discarded. The donations have been generous enough that after stocking the shelves at St. Ambrose, staff have been able to pay it forward by feeding others in need within the neighborhood.
Over time, they have forged tight-knit friendships with locals who return every Friday and with the arrival of winter, the staff have also begun giving away free gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves to those who come to pick up food.
“We are able to alleviate some of the stress these families are facing so that families can save their money for other uses such as utilities and rent,” said Megan Ferronetti, Volunteer Program Coordinator at St. Ambrose. “The St. Ambrose Family Shelter is very grateful for our partnership with Lovin’ Spoonfuls. They have helped so many of our families over the past few years.”
