‘We got along great and loved spending time together’: A Sunset Point Camp Valentine’s Day Story

Growing up, Callie remembers looking out the front window of her grandfather’s house to catch a glimpse of seaside weddings taking place across the street at Catholic Charities Boston’s Sunset Point Camp in Hull.
Little did she know she would eventually find her own love story there.
It was the summer of 2022 when Callie, who had worked at the camp since 2019, first met Darien, a former camper also working that summer as a camp counselor. Surrounded by the joy of the campers and bonded by their shared love of working with kids, Callie and Darien quickly hit it off. Though they lost touch after camp ended, they both returned the following summer to work as counselors again.
“It was like nothing was lost and no time had gone by,” Callie said. “We just got along great and loved spending time together. Whenever our groups would work together for games and activities, one of the kids would come over and say, ‘Miss Callie, I think Mr. Darien likes you.’”
Today, the pair says they are so grateful to Sunset Point Camp for bringing them together and for providing a meaningful way to give back to kids in their community over the years. This summer, Callie will serve as the Waterfront Counselor while Darien will serve as the Head Counselor.
“It’s so cool to think that I grew up working at Sunset Point Camp and I met my boyfriend there,” said Callie. “Sunset Point Camp is just such a happy environment. Everyone always has a smile on their face.”
