Catholic Charities Boston Receives Grant from Healey-Driscoll Administration for Continued Funding of NA/HHA Program
Catholic Charities Boston was one of nine organizations across Massachusetts that received a Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success grant as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to break down barriers to the workforce and connect unemployed or underemployed individuals to well-paying jobs.
The $500,000 grant will be used to provide training and placement services through Catholic Charities Adult Education & Workforce Development programs to prepare 81 unemployed or underemployed participants for Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide (NA/HHA) positions, partnering with ComForCare Home Care and Linden Ponds by Erickson Senior Living, as well as the recently reopened Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital and Good Samaritan Medical Center.
“These Workforce Success Grants are designed to improve access to good-paying jobs and long-term career success for all Massachusetts residents,” said Governor Maura Healey. “By investing in the skill development for underemployed and unemployed jobseekers, we are unlocking their potential, meeting the needs of employers, and strengthening the competitiveness of our workforce and regional economies.”
Jacqueline Chernoble, Vice President of Adult Education and Workforce Development at Catholic Charities of Boston, represented the program at the grant announcement on October 8th at the MassHire Workforce Investment Board in Salem.
“The continued investment from the Commonwealth in our workforce development programs is a testament to the incredible work of our NA/HHA teams over the past year and the quality of the expanded services we’ve been able to provide through Workforce Success Grant funding. We have trained 164 individuals across our South Boston and Brockton NA/HHA programs since September of 2023 and already 102 have met the 30-day retention benchmark in their new jobs as nursing assistants. The passion and dedication of this team and the impact of the work they do for our community inspires me every day.”
