Catholic Charities Childcare Now Part of The Boston Pre-K Program
Catholic Charities Yawkey and Labouré Child Care Centers are now participating in Boston Pre-K (previously known as Universal Pre-K), a high-quality, public pre-kindergarten program for Boston families, funded and administered by Boston Public Schools (BPS).
Using the nationally acclaimed “Focus Curriculum,” a play-based curriculum focused on early literacy and whole-child development for children ages 3 & 4, the Boston Pre-k program is centered around strengthening early reading and math skills, as well as social-emotional growth, with activities that accommodate different learning styles.
Throughout the year, children in Boston Pre-K explore engaging topics in social studies, science, and engineering that build upon each other as they advance through second grade, all aligned with state standards. In the classroom, children take part in both teacher-led and child-led activities, from art projects to sensory discovery to math. They also work on projects at the end of each unit, where they create and present their ideas, often involving their families.
Instead of traditional homework, teachers will send home weekly Home Links—simple activities connected to classroom learning that invite families to participate.
Yawkey and Labouré’s 3- and 4-year-old preschool classrooms are among several local centers who have been awarded seats in the program and will be holding preview sessions on the following dates:
- December 10 at 3 p.m. at Labouré
- December 13 at 3:30 p.m. at Yawkey.
