In the Media: Catholic Charities Boston Urges Parishioners to Give Back this Ash Wednesday Amid Uncertainty

Members of Catholic Charities Boston’s leadership team delivered urgent appeals to parishioners across the Archdiocese of Boston this Ash Wednesday, as federal funding cuts continue to impact the most vulnerable in our communities.
At St. Cecilia’s Parish in Boston, Vice President of Basic Needs Beth Chambers helped to distribute ashes and shared a message with parishioners, urging the community to support the agency as federal funding cuts and changes in immigration policy continue to threaten Catholic Charities Boston’s ability to keep families safe and together.
“Individuals and families know they don’t want to come to our food pantry because they’re afraid,” said Beth, as reported by WBZ. “Looking at our education program and night classes — we’ve had to go completely remote because the students were the ones who said, ‘Teacher, we can’t come here anymore.’”
Describing the situation as ‘unprecedented,’ Beth emphasized Catholic Charities Boston’s belief that ‘every human being is worthy of dignity’ and reminded parishioners that any amount makes a difference as the agency remains committed to serving the most vulnerable among us with compassion and respect.
Donations collected in Archdiocese of Boston parishes on Ash Wednesday will be designated to Catholic Charities. Donations may also be made at ccab.org/donate.
