We are pleased to announce that our St. Ambrose Family Shelter in Dorchester recently received a Youth Garden Grant from KidsGardening, a Vermont-based nonprofit organization focused on bringing the life-changing benefits of gardening to children through grants and educational activities. KidsGardening reaches over 2 million children annually.
Pictured above, Megan and Bri, two program staff members at St. Ambrose, open the grant award, which includes educational materials to engage the children who live at the shelter and tools for the garden.
The grant will be used to clean up and expand St. Ambrose Family Shelter's community garden this spring. The garden supplies the shelter with fresh produce from spring until early fall, distributed to residents and local community members. Residents, staff members, and volunteers work together to care for and harvest from the garden, and it is a rewarding project for all involved.
We are thankful to KidsGardening for this generous grant that will enable us to expand the garden to include more produce and flowers this year.
We are looking forward to a successful gardening season!
